Icebergs and Whale Watching
Icebergs are a common sight along the coast of Newfoundland from June until August. They originate from the glaciers of West Greenland where 30,000 - 40,000 are calved annually, not appearing in Newfoundland waters until their second year at sea. The waters of Newfoundland are rich with sea life with the largest habitat of Humpback Whales in the world. The full moon in June usually brings the capelin (tiny fish) ashore, and the whales quickly follow. The best time to see whales is June through August.
